Description
Dried Uziza leaves are the dehydrated, aromatic leaves of the West African black pepper plant (Piper guineense). They are used in Nigerian and West African cooking for a sharp, “peppery kick” and earthy aroma. They are a core ingredient in pepper soup, native stews, and savory meat dishes. The leaves taste similar to a mix of black pepper, chili, and an herbal bay leaf. Think of them as both a leafy vegetable and a hot spice. You can use them whole, torn, or ground. Cooks them into soups (like Egusi or Nsala) near the end of cooking to preserve their zesty aroma.
